Dr. Edna M. Lindemann--another outstanding woman with ties to ARLIS, the arts information profession, and a colleague of Ms. Florence DaLuiso--recently passed away. Dr. Lindemann was the founder and director of the Charles Burchfield Center at Buffalo State College--renamed and now known as the Burchfield-Penney Art Center. During her tenure, the Center's collections grew by 3000% to include over 100 Burchfield paintings, more than 300 drawings, nearly 100 wallpaper works and all of the artist's prints, which were obtained mostly by gift. It was through her vision and leadership, more importantly, that the Center successfully acquired a sizeable collection of personal papers of Charles Burchfield--a decision that reflected Dr. Lindemann's keen understanding and value of library and archival materials, particularly in a museum setting, as historical documentation on the life, career, and oeuvre of an artist. Long unrecognized, Dr. Lindemann--in close collaboration with Ms. DaLuiso--was an early participant, organizer, and supporter of ARLIS/Western New York, one of the oldest regional chapters. Dr. Lindemann was nominated for the ARLIS Distinguished Service Award in 2004. Below is the obituary: Lindemann, Edna M. (Meibohm) (nee Meibohm) September 15, 2006 of West Falls, NY; beloved wife of the late Rev. Fred H. Lindemann; sister of the late Rev. Theodore, late Walter N. (survived by Betty) and late Rev. Richard (survived by Ruth) Meibohm; also survived by step-grandchildren, nieces and a nephew. Friends may call Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the WOOD FUNERAL HOME, 784 Main Street, East Aurora. Funeral services at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Pine & Fillmore Sts, East Aurora, Thursday at 11:00 AM. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery, East Aurora. Memorials can be made to the Edna M. Lindemann Fellowship Residence Endowment Fund at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center, Buffalo State College. -------------- Susana Tejada Head of Research Resources Albright-Knox Art Gallery 1285 Elmwood Avenue Buffalo, New York 14222-1096 t: 716.270.8225 f: 716. 882.6213 e: [log in to unmask] w: www.albrightknox.org -----Original Message----- From: ART LIBRARIES SOCIETY DISCUSSION LIST [mailto:[log in to unmask]]On Behalf Of Dorothy S. Appointed to the staff of the Lockwood in 1964 as Art and Music Librarian., she became Art Librarian in 1967 after James Coover and Carol Bradley came to UB from Vassar College to establish the separate Music Library. Florence DaLuiso spent sixteen years building the art collection in Lockwood. She retired in 1980. At the time of her retirement her contributions were recognized: "The Art Collection nurtured by you will be a living testimony to your long years of eventful association with the University Libraries." In 1969 she organized a five-day program in Buffalo which represented the first time that a group of art librarians had met to consider issues related to the content and administration of art libraries. This meeting is one of the events which led to the establishment of the ARLIS/NA (The Art Library Society of North America). In addition to her participation in ARLIS/NA she was also active in the American Library Association and was involved in association publications related to art and architecture librarianship. Two years ago ARLIS/NA recognized her for her pioneering work with the organization. After her retirement she was active as a volunteer at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Garden including the establishment of a library. She returned to the Libraries frequently, most often to consult with long-time friend Fino Porcari on cataloging issues related to material at the Botanical Garden and to bring me up-to-date about the Botanical Garden. After the death of her husband, Gustave DaLuiso, M.D., she married John Zoll, M.D. John John A.
