Subject Librarian for Architecture and Historic Preservation
University of Maryland Libraries - College Park
The University of Maryland Libraries will premier its new digital library, "Treasury of World's Fairs Art & Architecture." As curator of this collection since 2001, Patti Cossard began the process of designing a searchable image-database to facilitate the study of international exhibitions. Currently the image-base holds over 300 images as well as 40 contextualizing articles in the "Essays on the Material Culture of the World's Fairs". Patti will speak on the 5-year process that has resulted in this digital publication.
11:30-12:00
Melissa Beck Lemke
Archivist of Italian Art
Image Collections, Photographic Archive
National Gallery of Art Library
The National Gallery of Art Image Collections has participated in two ARTstor scanning projects: the Clarence Ward Archive (film negatives of American and French Medieval architecture) and Foto Reali (glass negatives of paintings from Italian private collections). I propose to speak about our experiences in general, including the archival issues of scanning both glass negatives and film taken from cold storage, quality control of the scans, concerns with digital "restoration" of the images and cataloguing concerns.
12:00-12:30
Joan Stahl
Manager, Art + Architecture Libraries
University of Maryland Libraries
University of Maryland Libraries is participating in an Institutional Hosting Pilot with ARTstor. Institutional hosting is an adjunct to the core ARTstor and a way to make local collections accessible alongside ARTstor collections. Also note if you arrive in town early (around 8 am), you may be able to get a precious 9-hour spot on King George Street just before St. John’s Campus.
