Subject: Florence DaLuiso
In today's _Buffalo News_ there is an obituary for Florence DaLuiso-Zoll
who died Monday at the age of 91.
Appointed to the staff of the Lockwood in 1964 as Art and Music
Librarian., she became Art Librarian in 1967 after James Coover and Carol
Bradley came to UB from Vassar College to establish the separate Music
Library. Florence DaLuiso spent sixteen years building the art collection
in Lockwood.
She retired in 1980. At the time of her retirement her contributions were
recognized: "The Art Collection nurtured by you will be a living testimony
to your long years of eventful association with the University Libraries."
In 1969 she organized a five-day program in Buffalo which represented the
first time that a group of art librarians had met to consider issues
related to the content and administration of art libraries. This meeting
is one of the events which led to the establishment of the ARLIS/NA (The
Art Library Society of North America). In addition to her participation in
ARLIS/NA she was also active in the American Library Association and was
involved in association publications related to art and architecture
librarianship. Two years ago ARLIS/NA recognized her for her pioneering
work with the organization.
After her retirement she was active as a volunteer at the Buffalo and Erie
County Botanical Garden including the establishment of a library. She
returned to the Libraries frequently, most often to consult with long-time
friend Fino Porcari on cataloging issues related to material at the
Botanical Garden and to bring me up-to-date about the Botanical Garden.
After the death of her husband, Gustave DaLuiso, M.D., she married John
Zoll, M.D.
