Queens College Art Center is pleased to invite you to Figure Studies and
Banyan Trees: Photographs by Tony Gonzalez. In two series, Gonzalez
addresses the tension between literal and abstract images in a compelling
photographic exploration of organic forms. Figure Studies, images of the
human body shown here for the first time, combine the contour elements of
a line drawing with the subtle tonal quality of a photograph while Banyan
Trees reflect his fascination with realism as it is achieved through a
three-dimensional effect. The exhibition is co-sponsored by the Queens
College Department of Art. It will open on Tuesday, September 12 with a
free gallery talk by the artist from 5 to 6 pm and a reception to 8 pm,
and will be on view through October 27.
