I second Joan's request to return ART DOC to a peer-reviewed journal status. I too thought it was still peer reviewed. This status is important to maintaining the journal's reputation as a serious contribution to our literature. bj B. J. At that time, articles were peer-reviewed and my article about folk art terminology benefited greatly from the comments (anonymous of course) sent to me. When I submitted another paper on the same topic in 2000, I was told that it would not be subjected to peer review. Of course, my paper was accepted for publication only after being read by the Art Doc editors, and then it was scrupulously copy-edited by Eileen Markson (a wonderful, collaborative, but firm editor). However, peer review is a different, separate, process whereby colleagues who have experience within the same general field are asked to comment on the content of the paper and put it into the context of contemporary scholarship or thinking in that area of specialization. I had been looking forward to that part of the process and I think my later paper would have been the better for it. I hope that the Publications Committee might consider reinstating the peer review process. Joan M.
