“Preserving and Restoring Family Photos and Documents”
The workshop will provide an overview of techniques and
practices for protecting family photographs, documents, and other treasured
objects. The morning session will focus on the many benefits of digitizing photographs
and documents. An Adobe Photoshop tutorial will detail basic photo restoration
techniques using photographs or other documents provided by workshop
participants. During the afternoon session, each participant will create an archival
portfolio for storage of original photographs and documents.

(Lea Nickless is a painter, bookmaker, and photographer. She
has worked in museum and arts administration at Vizcaya, the Wolfsonian-FIU,
and Miami-Dade Art in Public Places. She has curated various exhibitions at

“Pop-ups for Book Artists and Graphic Designers”
The workshop will be a one-day exploration of the methods
and production of pop-ups for book artists and graphic designers. Topics to be
covered include: the making of a matrix, use of suitable materials, using the
copier or computer (with printer) to place designs on backgrounds or for the design
of the pop-ups themselves. In addition, five pop-up folds will be demonstrated.
The workshop participants will come away from the experience with a working knowledge
of the methods for creating a pop-up artists’ book and will have created
a matrix for a new book and will have created five simple pop-ups that are the
key to the dimensional bookmaking design process.
