Dear Kathy: As someone who likes to read (and write articles for) Art Doc, I am glad to have a substantial art library journal that publishes such a wide range of papers--and book reviews. However, I have a feeling that many people read Art Doc primarily for the book reviews. At the same time, I am glad to see that the reviews will ALSO be online. Maybe if the overall size of the print publication has to be cut back, the number of articles should be cut back rather than the number of book reviews. (I have thought for some time that it would be better to have longer, more substantive articles rather than the relatively large number of short ones.) Or, maybe we should just be putting more money into Art Doc instead of skimping on such an important manifestation of the Society. This is just thinking out loud. It would be good to hear more comprehensively from the membership about this subject. Maybe it's time for a membership survey devoted solely to questions concerning Art Doc?
