HISTORY OF ART LIBRARIES IN CANADA / HISTOIRE DES BIBLIOTHOQUES D’ART AU CANADA
ARLIS/Canada announces the launch of a new web resource, the History of Art Libraries in Canada / Histoire des bibliothPques d’art au Canada, available at: www.arliscanada.ca/hal
The website presents “Essays in the History of Art Librarianship in Canada / Essais sur l’histoire de la bibliothéconomie d’art au Canada”, contributed by Canadian art librarians across the country. Texts are accompanied by endnotes, bibliographies and illustrations.
By design, the scope of the essays is broad and inclusive, encompassing:
- histories of Canadian art libraries and their collections;
- research on subjects such as book illustration and artists’ books;
- information on the progress of professional associations from CARLIS to ARLIS/Canada;
- biographies of Canadian pioneers in art librarianship;
- a chronology of art library development in Canada.
The History of Art Libraries in Canada / Histoire des bibliothPques d’art au Canada is a national project of ARLIS/Canada, sponsored by the National Gallery of Canada Library and Archives, with additional special project funding from ARLIS/NA. Jo Nordley Beglo, National Gallery of Canada, serves as the national editor, working with regional editors. The ARLIS/Canada website is hosted by James Rout, The Banff Centre.
