Dear Art Specialists ~
I am not an art librarian, so I turn to you for some suggestions. A
religion professor here has an annual assignment to find images of Jesus
in works of art from cultures outside North America and Europe. He is
especially interested in Asian and South American cultures.
Do any of you have suggestions of books we might buy that would offer
these images AND some biographical information about the artists? We
have only one book in our library that answers to the subject heading of
"Christian Art and Symbolism - East Asia" and none for Latin America.
We do have Art Museum Image Gallery, and I have poked around in the
Metropolitan Museum's Timeline of Art History online, but I'm not
finding a wealth of information either place. Perhaps I need better
search terms!
Thanks in advance for any suggestions of specific books or information
on how we might better help our students with this assignment.
