Well, there is the problem in a nutshell, isn't it? We are all facing a
time of great change and libraries and librarians face many of the same chasms
that VR professionals do--change and adaptation is going to be necessary for
survival. There needs to be a recognition that in this new world librarians are
actually going to have to understand and foster the skill sets and experience of
the VR professionals as well as the VR people assimilating the strengths of
library practices. The key words in this are

melding
We aren't talking about just the merging of 2 organizations: what is really
at stake is the melding of two professions.
Ms. Haas' comments point out some of the difficulties to be overcome since
of course I also deal in "scholarship and subject depth and
documentation."

Subject: Re: [ARLIS-L] ARLIS/NA and
VRA
hi all,
i've been reading this discussion with interest--but
finally felt like
weighing in..i, for one, would seriously not like losing
the designation
of being a 'library' association....that term has
legitimacy, concerning
documentation, as sherman mentionned. there is a
link to scholarship
and subject depth. the field has changed, obviously,
and the VRA is also
a significant organization; i'm not saying
otherwise.
but being a 'library' association has cultural meaning all it's
own.
