I remember being on the ARLIS/NA Board when we arrived at "Art Documentation" as the most format neutral expression possible. We considered that a real victory for those of us who did not deal with bibliographic material. And while I think it's very premature of us to be suggesting names for what is at the moment only an interesting idea, I do think the challenges of encapsulating Art + Images + Libraries + Classroom Technology + Metadata + Social Software + Electronic Resources + Digital and Electronic Collection Development + User Services and Interfaces + DAMS + Licensing + Presentation Systems + Archival Collections will make for VERY interesting discussions. The fact that this discussion is only happening on ONE of the relevant listservs only goes to highlight the problems we face. You, of course, also remember some of the society discussions in the last 1970s about name changes. What is especially interesting to me about your name suggestion is the lack of any element of documentation. While the name is only part of the game, there is a Visual Culture Caucus in College Art as well as all sorts of Google hits for organizations using "visual culture" in their name.
