A few additional points that support a merger, or much closer
relationship, between VRA and ARLIS:

1. Theoretically, a single organization would be administratively leaner
and more cost efficient than two individual organizations. e.g. larger
room blocks will give us more negotiating power with hotels.

2. A larger membership base could lend greater clout to the
organization's standards, public policy efforts, and relationships with
other organizations. Larger size could also help attract high caliber
speakers.

3. Smaller schools/museums are more likely than large ones to have staff
responsible for both the library and visual resource collections, yet
small institutions also tend to be least able to afford to be active in
both VRA and ARLIS. Thus, those who most need *both* organizations are
currently least likely to be getting their needs met.
