Deadline for Louis Sullivan Study Tour Registration Extended to June 1st

 

Join the Society of Architectural Historians this June for a study tour to commemorate the 150th birthday of renowned Chicago architect Louis H. Sullivan, Father of the Prairie School.    

Limited space is still available on the tour, Louis H. Sullivan and His Prairie School Legacy:  The Midwestern Banks and Other Prairie School Masterpieces, a two-part study tour.

 

  • Part 1 of the Study Tour:  The Architecture of Louis H. Sullivan in Chicago

June 18-19, 2006

Cost:  $195 per person

 

  • Part 2 of the Study Tour:  Sullivan’s Midwestern Banks and Other Prairie School Masterpieces in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin

June 19-25, 2006

Cost:  $1495 per person, double occupancy

 

The tour will be led by renowned Prairie School Historian, H. Allen Brooks.  His1972 book, The Prairie School:  Frank Lloyd Wright and His Midwest Contemporaries, was the first, and still is considered one of the most important publications that put the work of Louis H. Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Burley Griffin, and a host of talented architects an historic framework.  Among the Prairie School masterpieces we will visit on the tour are Sullivan’s renowned Midwestern banks including National Farmer’s Bank (1906-1908) in Owatonna, Minnesota; Walter Burley Griffin’s Rock Crest/Rock Glen community (1912-1914) in Mason City, Iowa; Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin East (1925) in Spring Green, Wisconsin; and dozens of other Sullivan banks and Prairie School buildings.

The registration deadline has been extended to June 1, 2006.  All SAH Study Tours are registered with the AIA Continuing Education System.
