Fine Arts Library
The University
of Arkansas Libraries
seek dynamic, public service-oriented candidates for the position of Head, Fine
Arts Library. Reporting to the Director for Public Services, the Head, Fine
Arts Library provides leadership in developing and implementing innovative
services; works with faculty and students to plan and implement information and
instructional services; manages collection development for art, architecture,
and landscape architecture; manages two full-time support staff; and oversees
the facility.
Qualifications. Required: American
Library Association (ALA) accredited master’s degree, or a graduate
degree in related disciplines; three years of experience in an academic or
research library; supervisory and management experience; working knowledge of
standard electronic resources in art and architecture; excellent interpersonal
skills; potential to meet promotion and tenure requirements in performance,
scholarship, and service.
Preferred: Collection
development experience; bibliographic instruction experience; and/or working
knowledge of integrated online systems.
Salary and Benefits. Salary
and rank dependent on qualifications. Tenure-track, twelve-month appointment.
Minimum salary: $45,000. Benefits include TIAA/CREF and/or Fidelity, 22 days
of annual leave, tuition reduction, health and dental insurance.
Background. Supported by
major gifts received through the Campaign for the 21st Century, University
goals include increasing enrollment by several thousand students; establishing
new academic programs, especially in the Honors
College and Graduate School;
and increasing research across the curriculum. In concert with these goals,
the Libraries have identified strategic initiatives to meet increasing expectations
of students and faculty in this growth environment, including innovations
within the Libraries; activities to support the University’s land-grant
teaching and research mission; and dedication, cooperation, and flexibility
among personnel.
The University Libraries hold over 1.7 million volumes.
The Libraries participate in the Greater Western Library Alliance. Library
personnel (FTE) include 32 library faculty, 80 professional and support staff,
3 library graduate assistants, and 29 student assistants. The Fine Arts
Library (http://libinfo.uark.edu/fal/),
a branch of the University Libraries, opened in 1951 in the acclaimed Fine Arts
Center, designed by Edward Durell Stone. The collections (approximately 35,000
volumes) include traditional print and electronic resources on the visual arts
(painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, and photography),
architecture, and landscape architecture. The University of Arkansas School of
Architecture has the only accredited professional architecture and landscape
architecture programs in Arkansas.
Whether students choose to pursue a bachelor of architecture degree, a bachelor
of landscape architecture degree, or a bachelor of science in architectural or
landscape architectural studies degree, they have opportunities for unique
professional experiences in the Rome Study Center for Architecture and the
Humanities, Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, Arkansas, or the University
of Arkansas Community Design Center (UACDC). The renowned architect, Fay
Jones, was the first Dean of the School
of Architecture. His
complete record of teaching and practice, including drawings, slides, writings,
models, etc., are housed in the Special Collections Department of the
