And don’t forget the photographs from the VietNam war, especially:

1) the photo of the execution of a man by Vietnam's police chief, Lt. Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Loan, at noon on Feb. 1, 1968 by Eddie Adams;

2) and June 8, 1972 : With her clothes burned off, 9 year old Phan Thi Kim Phuc running out of a napalmed village;

3) and the photographs of the My Lai Massacre of women, elderly men, and children;

4) and Mary Ann Vecchio kneeling over the body of Jeffrey Miller at the Kent State massacre;

5) and On June 11, 1963, the immolation of Thich Quang Duc, a Buddhist monk;

6) and Medic Thomas Cole of Richmond, Va., with a bandage covering his eyes, aiding a wounded soldier. Photo by: Henri Huet, 1966

These photographs still move people.

Subject: Re: [ARLIS-L] Violence vs. Solidarity in Art

The French emblem of Marianne is meant to be inspirational.  Whether called Marianne or Liberty, as in Eugene Delacroix's famous painting "Liberty Leading the People," her original evocation was martial, although today she is a kinder and gentler representation of Liberté-Egalité-Fraternité.

Many people are moved by Pablo Picasso's "Guernica," and Francisco Goya's "The Third of May 1808."

 I am seeking
good examples of art (both religious and secular) that have been shown

anyone make any suggestions?  Thanks,
