Greetings colleagues,
After much delay (my apologies) we have a small working group formed to
begin a close analysis of the various bound library catalogs -- primarily
G.K. Hall, but others as well -- in order to establish their continued
value as research tools. Our purpose is to examine the level to which these
printed works have been reconned and identify what material they contain
that is not available in any other form. This analysis will enable
librarians to make informed decisions about the necessity to keep these
large sets on site, relegate them to storage, or withdraw them completely.
We will contact the home institutions for these catalogs for definitive
information and also perform a modest amount of double checking by
searching online resources against the bound catalogs.
Special thanks to Kathleen Lonbom, Arts and Humanities Division Librarian
at Illinois State University, who created a detailed initial survey while
serving as an intern at the Ryerson and Burnham Librareis of The Art
Institute of Chicago in Fall 2003.
