Subject: [ARLIS-L] Assessment of ARLIS/NA

Dear Colleagues,
I have recently appointed an Assessment Task Force whose charge will be to
assess the functions of the society, and to develop a structure for
ARLIS/NA that meets the needs of the functions.

For several years, ARLIS/NA has been struggling with its organizational
structure. Two previous presidents in recent years have looked at the
structure and made decisions to disband certain committees in an effort to
streamline the structure. Some of the decisions made have been successful;
others have been less successful from the members' viewpoint. But the
issue of the organizational structure still needs to be looked at
holistically. We need to take into account the changing nature of the
needs of our organization.

As part of the ongoing thinking among ARLIS/NA members about the Society
and future directions, we (the organization) should analyze our current
structure, and look at possible new structures to make ARLIS/NA more
effective organizationally and for its members.

As part of it's assessment activities, the task force will hold focus
groups, of 8-10 ARLIS members each, at the Banff conference to discuss
these organizational issues in a structured way. Two are scheduled:

Sunday, May 7, 11am-12n, Norquay Room
Monday, May 8, 11am-12n, Norquay Room

If you would like to participate in one of these groups, please email
Lynda White ([log in to unmask]) before 5pm on May 3 to reserve a place.

There will be additional opportunities for member input after the
conference. Please also feel free to express your thoughts on these
issues to any member of the task force:

Sarah Falls
Kathleen List
Mark Pompelia
Rebecca Price
Lynda White, Chair

Thank you,
Ann Whiteside
