Visual Resources Collection
Curator
The Visual Resources Collection (VRC) of Stanford's Department of Art and 
Art History is used heavily by every member of the art history faculty, as 
well as graduate and undergraduate students preparing for coursework and 
lectures. Under the Chair and Department Administrator of the Department of 
Art and Art History, and in consultation with the teaching faculty, the 
Curator manages and develops all services related to the VRC including: 
administration, budget development and finance management, collection 
development, cataloging, direction, image digitization, policies, 
processing, slide production, storage, support of classroom instruction, 
supervision of support staff and policy creation. Provides specialist 
expertise in managing image data; develops and applies advanced knowledge 
of the principles and theories of image management. Leads the VRC as it 
builds infrastructure for stores of digital image content and monitors and 
manages the database system supporting the on-going cataloging and 
development of the visual image databases, including acquisition, 
cataloging and display of the image data. Proactively plans for the future 
of the collection, informs the faculty of new trends and works 
collaboratively with them to develop electronic teaching materials by 
acquiring, delivering and maintaining images required for course web 
applications.

Qualifications:
  Master's degree in library science / information management from an 
accredited university. Advanced knowledge of cataloging technology and 
technical services for visual image collections based on VRA core, CLO, 
AAR2, Library of Congress and Getty Institute authority files. Ability to 
concurrently manage a minimum of three major projects. Familiarity with 
emerging trends and standards in visual materials. Advanced knowledge of 
access issues, specifically user needs and expectations related to the use 
of visual images in both slide and digital format for academic teaching and 
research in art history. Advanced knowledge of current collection 
development and management issues involving visual resources. Knowledge of 
licensing practice and copyright issues involving visual images and image 
collections. Knowledge of art history and acquaintance with principal 
languages of art history. Experience with digital information formats and 
familiarity with their use and application. Knowledge of current and coming 
technologies for cataloging, storing and disseminating images and of the 
relevant hardware and software. Active participation in professional 
organizations.
