An art history prof who is my sometimes co-teacher and research partner is interested in creating some firmer guidelines than we now have on getting permissions for using images in student work--primarily theses and other Master's projects. I'm asking my wonderful ARLIS colleagues two things: 1. An specific and immediate question from a current grad student--does she need to get permission from a museum to reproduce a photograph taken by her of a work in that museum, when the museum did not prohibit the taking of photos of objects in its collection? (This is for a project, not a thesis, if that makes a difference). 2. If anyone has or knows about some good guidelines of this type that other institutions have done, please let me know how to get my hands on a copy. This will be a summer project, so anytime you think of something in the next couple of months, feel free to pass it on to me. BTW, whoever had the idea to do ARLIS/NA in Banff this year--thanks a whole bunch! A wonderful experience. Edith L.
