ARLIS/Western New York (WNY) Chapter invites you to attend its Spring meeting at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Geneva, NY, Friday, April 7, 2006. The meeting will include a Career/Recruitment Panel, featuring questions from prospective art librarians, addressed by testimonials from mentors and experienced librarians, and a lively discussion, question/answer session. The morning session will be followed in the afternoon by tours of Historic Geneva provided by College faculty. DETAILS: After meet and greet, beginning at 9 am, we'll kick off the meeting at 10 am with a Career/recruitment panel on art librarianship that will feature queries from three prospective art librarians, followed by testimonials, best practices, and discussion from three/four experienced librarians who've mentored and attracted others to librarianship. I know we'll hear some thought-provoking questions, as well as some great stories and thoughts about librarianship, past, present, and future. Following lunch and our business meeting, Kathryn Vaughn, ARLIS/WNY Vice-President/President-Elect and host at Hobart and William Smith, has planned architectural walking tours of historic Main Street, Geneva and St. John's Historic Chapel, presented by members of the College Art History faculty. After the tours we'll convene briefly for refreshments in the Chapel before heading home. This is a great opportunity for prospective librarians to get to know ARLIS members better, to find out what art/architecture librarians really do, where our profession is headed in the future, and why so many librarians love their jobs. We hope to provide a lively and informative discussion on these topics, and therefore encourage all of you to throw off the winter doldrums and head to Geneva! We also urge you, especially those near library schools (Albany and Syracuse) to reach out to prospective librarians and invite them to spend the day with us in Historic Geneva. From Buffalo we have invited two students from the School of Library and Information Science at UB who will participate in the panel and are most enthusiastic about this opportunity. RESPONSE: So we can get a tentative head count for food and space, please rsvp to Kathryn and me asap or by Monday, March 27, <[log in to unmask]>, <[log in to unmask]>. A tentative agenda will follow, as will directions. We hope to hear from you soon! Dorothy Tao, President, Kathryn Vaughn, Vice President/President-Elect ARLIS/WNY Chapter Dorothy S.
