Hi Mary,

Denise is exactly right.  Francis Picabia is also attributed as La Sainte Vierge’s creator in the article, ”Questioning Dada's potency: Picabia's La Sainte Vierge and the dialogue with Duchamp.”  If you have access to Academic Search Premier, the full-text is available, and the article has a picture of La Sainte Vierge.  Here’s the bibliographic info:

Subject: Re: [ARLIS-L] "Sacre Vierge" Ink Blot by Marcel Duchamp

From Calvin Tompkins Bio of Duchamp (Pimlico 1996)  pg 234:

“If Rose Selavy represented the spirit of New York Dada, her counterparts in Paris were two widely circulated images by Francis Picabia: an ugly splatter of black ink on a white page in 391, entitled La Sainte Vierge (The Blessed Virgin), and a Dada Painting that consisted of a child’s stuffed monkey nailed to a board, with “Portrait de Cezanne, Portrait de Renoir, Portrait de Rembrandt, Natures Morte” painted around the edges.

Looks like Picabia is who this student is looking for.

391 was a magazine.

Can anyone help with the following query from a student?

I am in search of a copy of an ink blot called "Sacre Vierge" by Marcel Duchamp.
