Hi Carl,

I am a library student also and I am also interested in Metadata, particularly for digital libraries. Would you mind summarizing your responses for the list?

Thanks and Good Luck with your work,

I am a library student at the San Jose State program and am currently taking a course on Metadata.

In order to familiarize us with this subject, we have been assigned to look into various fields to see how they are using metadata. I have been tasked to looking into metadata in the Graphics Art area.

I know you are all very busy but I hope you would have a moment to answer some questions.

1. What metadata schemes do you use?

2. How are you handling issues of crosswalks and interoperability? (DTD, compliance with Dublin Core, etc.)

3. What cataloging aids do you use? (AACR2, AAT, ULAN, etc.)

4. What problems did you encounter getting your collection on line? Was it accomplished in-house or was it out-sourced?

5. What is the size of your collection? How long did it take to complete the project?

6. What advice would you give! to someone who is just starting an on-line collection?

7. What type if library is your organization? (Academic, research, special, etc.)

I apologize if I stated my questions awkwardly. I am still tying to get a handle on the proper terms and the vast amount of information on this topic.

Thank you very much for your assistance! - Carl
