Speaking of mysteries and Banff, there is one set in Banff entitled 'Murder as a fine art', by John Ballem (Toronto: Dundurn Group, 2002; ISBN 1550023853), which attendees may wish to pack in their luggage. It's the story of how a Caravaggio painting, "lost" for centuries, was identified, restored, and documented. Libraries and archives play a major role, of course. The author does a pretty good job of making it read like a fictional mystery story, bringing the personalities to life and portraying the cut-throat politics and egos of art historians. Looking forward to seeing everyone in Banff, Suzy Frechette Fine Arts Dept.
