VISUAL RESOURCES LIBRARIAN

The Visual Resources Librarian plays a leading role in the evolution of
image collections at the University of Oregon.  The position is located in
the Architecture and Allied Arts (AAA) Library, a branch of the University
of Oregon Libraries, and reports to the branch head. Primary
responsibilities include managing the Visual Resources Collection, a
significant repository whose holdings number 350,000 slides. Key duties also
include supervising staff, providing reference and instructional services,
participating in the library’s collection development program, and
developing tools that increase the usability and visibility of library
resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: ALA-accredited library degree (master’s degree must be conferred
by June 2006); strong academic background in art, architecture, or closely
related field; and experience in a visual resources collection. Also
requires familiarity with emerging information resources and technologies;
strong knowledge and interest in digital image management, database
applications, and Web design; and the ability to teach the use of
information resources in an academic environment. Desired: 3-5 years’
experience in a visual resources collection; knowledge of at least one
Western European language (preferably French, Italian or German); advanced
degree in the visual arts or architecture; experience with creating and
making accessible digital images in an instructional environment;
demonstrated professional development activity.

SALARY:
$35,000 minimum, depending on education, prior professional background
and/or rank.
