Title:  Coordinator of Web Development (search extended)
 
Essential function:  The Coordinator will work closely with library
faculty to maximize the instructional potential of the Hofstra University
Library’s Web site and other instructional technologies.  The Coordinator
will develop a site that effectively presents the wide array of digital
and print resources available through the library, guides users in
research, and engages them through dynamic, interactive design.  The Web
site provides access to resources, services, collections, and library
news.  It should be the primary service and information delivery point,
demonstrating a sense of identity and coherence.  The Coordinator reports
to the Assistant Dean for Reference Services and Collection Development
and fulfills the responsibilities enumerated below in concert with the
Senior Assistant Dean of Library Systems and Technology, the Computer
Center Technical Coordinator, the Computer Operations Facilitator, and
the Internet Technology section of the Computer Center.
 
Responsibilities:
. Coordinate the library's World Wide Web site, with specific
responsibility for the content and design of the home page and other
upper-level pages
. Develop on-line instructional and assessment materials, supporting
distance education and on-site instruction programs
. Create, assess, and implement on-line, self-guided tutorials 
. Enable new capabilities, such as virtual reference services
. Establish an ongoing usability testing and assessment program
. Monitor content for accuracy, currency, and consistency
. Monitor, identify, and communicate innovations in applications of the
Web for the delivery of resources, services, and information
. Assist library faculty with the design and content of useful Web pages
and subject guides
. Develop on-line interactive tools, such as surveys and forms
. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Web-based public
access library catalog
. Maintain database vendor administrative modules
. Maintain stylistic and structural consistency throughout Web pages
. Recommend Web development policy 
. Convene a Web advisory group for guidance in the development of
philosophy and policies related to the library's Web environment and to
insure consensus and ongoing communication with technical services
. Complete additional assignments as needed
 
Qualifications:
. An ALA-accredited Master's degree in library or information science
. Demonstrated ability to develop an effective Web site with a degree of
complexity
. Knowledge of Web design principles, including familiarity with Web
accessibility and usability norms and guidelines
. Strong writing and editing skills
. Demonstrated skills in project management, consensus building and
problem solving
. Solid understanding of the role and potential of technology for the
design and delivery of information resources and services
. Demonstrated experience with HTML and JavaScript
. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and between departments
. Experience in an academic or research library environment desirable
 
Compensation:
. Minimum $45,000
. Includes a full benefits package
