Associate Collections Curator, The Getty Research Institute, Collection Development Reporting to the Head of Collection Development, develops special collections and general library collections in art history. Requires a solid background in the history of the early modern period; knowledge of recent developments in modern and contemporary art is especially valuable. Makes recommendations for acquisitions; assesses donations and large collections for research value, authenticity and condition (including provenance); negotiates contracts and works collegially and occasionally collaboratively, with eleven collection curators in the department. Utilizes scholarly background and expertise interpreting the collections in the preparation of exhibitions, publications and lectures for public programs. Responds to queries concerning the collections, assists with processing decisions, evaluates items requested for loan by other institutions and recommends conservation treatments. Qualifications: M.A. or Ph.D. in art history or related area in the humanities; Master's degree in Library Science or suitable experience with research library setting; 1-2 years related experience; excellent knowledge of two foreign languages.
