Thank you for adding that info. I should have clarified that my
institution (rather than saying many academic institutions) does not pay a
higher salary based on the extra degree. We are not considered faculty
here which explains the different with Univ of Hawaii.

faculty. You need a
2nd MA for a promotion, which comes with a pay raise. The
2nd MA is a
ticket to apply - you still have to be performing well, be a
leader, etc.
to actually get promoted.
