I think its becoming more common for many of us to have both degrees.  I think the Art History degree can be very valuable when working with art information particularly in understanding the content, the nature of the field, and  the research process for the constituents you will serve and I think it will give you an edge over other job applicants without the degree.

But keep in mind it may not have a monetary benefit.  By that I mean many academic institutions do not pay a higher salary based on the extra degree.  I can't speak for museum libraries.

I am in the process of getting my MLIS, and I've been considering the costs vs. benefits of getting my Art History MA after I'm done.  How many of you on the list have both degrees?  Has it seemed to be a requirement for jobs for which you have applied?  Does this change between academic libraries and museum libraries?

Thanks,
Heather
