The Preservation Directorate of the Library of Congress announces a
series of workshops on "Salvage of Library Collections."

In an effort to help victims of past and future natural disasters, such
as the recent series of hurricanes, the Preservation Directorate of the
Library of Congress will be holding a free two-day workshop on salvage
of library collections (limit: 10 people). This two-day workshop will
be held on November 17 and 18, 2005. The workshop will be at the Library
of Congress, and is offered on the occasion of the first meeting of
members of the International Federation of Library Associations
Preservation and Conservation North American Network
(http://www.loc.gov/preserv/iflacore.html )

To continue to support this effort, the Preservation Directorate will
subsequently hold a series of similar one-day workshops monthly
throughout 2006. These one-day workshops are also free of charge and
may be open to a limited number of participants, with preference given
to librarians from regions affected by the hurricanes.

Pending funding, some courses may be held in the affected regions, in
partnership with Solinet, IFLA's Preservation and Conservation North
American Network, and other sponsors. For more information, please
