Call for Papers:
Art Libraries

The programme of the Art Libraries Section is planned under the general
theme: Libraries as Dynamic Engines for the Knowledge and Information
Society.

The Art Libraries Section is pleased to announce its intention to hold a
2-hour session during the conference. The theme of the session is
co-ordinated with the president's theme of Partnerships and also the
general IFLA theme of libraries as dynamic engines for change

Theme: "Art Libraries: Bonding Past and Future"

In the 21century with the rapid development of the IT art libraries are
challenged either to become an archive or museum of old traditional
materials or to become more and more digital and thus virtual.

Should the art libraries lean to both extremes and become a bond between the past and the future, between traditional and virtual art forms, between the real and virtual documents, between the artists and future generations.

With this topic the Art Libraries Section could further fit with the
president's interest in indigenous cultures in their rich heritage,
whose loss is often caused in part by technology, can be preserved into
the future with the help of technology.

Another aspect of the general topic could be Partnerships across the art
domaine
- working with other institutions to increase the relevance of libraries
in the modern world. Specifically on libraries and other cultural
partners joint roles in documenting and preserving threatened cultures.

You are invited to take part by submitting a paper for presentation.
