After six months at the Guggenheim Library, I thought it would be the
appropriate time to introduce myself and, because there are various
theories about its status, give a general update about the Guggenheim
Museum Library.

The basics: The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum Library is the research
library for the staff, interns, docents, and Learning through Art
educators of the Guggenheim Museum. As its primary mission is to support
in-house staff research, the library is closed to outside research
requests and visits.

The collection is focused on modern and contemporary art, architecture,
and design, with emphasis on the museum's international collections and
exhibitions. Its intact holdings contain approximately 30,000 volumes,
60 active periodical subscriptions, indexed electronic databases, and an
extensive Guggenheim exhibition catalog collection. Rare books and the
Hilla von Rebay library, part of the Guggenheim Museum Library special
collections, are stored off-site in the archives.

Currently, staff has expanded to one full-time manager, two part-time
library assistants, and interns. With recent staff increases, the
Guggenheim Museum Library is actively looking towards re-establishing a
publication exchange program as well as widening its collection
development policies.

Inquiries about the library's collection or policies can be directed to
myself, Francine Snyder, Manager of the Library and Archive via email at
[log in to unmask] or personally at [log in to unmask]

I look forward to any future correspondence.
