Hello Everyone,

I'm looking for some assistance.

As some of you are aware, the Cleveland Museum of Art is in the middle of a substantial building campaign which includes the Ingalls Library.  Next summer, the library will move into a new space.  As part of our move, we are in the process of identifying and migrating to a new ILS.  To prepare for this, I would like to send our data for MARC and authority cleanup.  I've pulled together a sample file which I have shopped to several vendors, one of which has returned to me sample results.  One thing that has stood out in the results is that despite the fact that changes to the way fine art subject headings are constructed happened in 2000, headings such as Art, Modern -- United States -- 19th century are not being flipped since they are not see references to the correct heading Art, American -- 19th century.  This revelation was quite disappointing to me since those are exactly the types of headings I wanted to fix before moving our data to a new ILS.  More troubling is the automated process that is being applied can make and obsolete headings into an incorrect ones.  Headings such as Art, Modern -- 19th century -- France -- Paris have come back as Art, French -- 19th century -- Paris.

So here are my questions:

Has anyone contracted for authority clean-up with a vendor who has be able to handle the above situations correctly? If so, who? And, did you have to contract for manual review to fix these problems.

Thanks in advance for all your help

BTW we are still planning to flip our in-house call numbers to LC as part of this migration too!  If I make it to the next conference, I'll be one sitting the corner mutter to myself as I think by that time I'll have completely gone round the bend!
