Digital Collections Librarian


The San Diego State University Library and Information Access seeks
applications and nominations for an innovative, dynamic Digital Collections
Librarian.  The successful candidate will provide campus leadership to
expand access and promote the Library’s digital collections and will also
engage in broader national and international dialog about the development
and use of digital collections.  The Digital Collections Librarian will
create, integrate and ensure access to digitized information services and
resources that support teaching, learning and research; manage standards
usage and compliance; convert textual, image, audio and video materials
into digital form and migrate digital resources into new formats.  In
consultation and collaboration with the Associate Dean and the broader
university community, the Digital Collections Librarian will develop
policies and procedures for management of the digital intellectual output
of SDSU and the digital conversion of library and archival
collections.  The incumbent will also perform outreach, communicating
progress and successes about the library’s digital initiatives to the
university and the scholarly community at large, and explore external
funding opportunities for digital library projects. The individual in this
position reports to the Associate Dean.

Required Qualifications:
·         Knowledge of current and emerging digital library technology,
including preservation, databases, storage systems and web services
·         Strong leadership skills, including creativity and initiative in
planning and facilitating projects
·         Experience with traditional and emerging metadata standards
·         Knowledge of current digital library technologies, standards and
best practices
·         Experience with one or more major descriptive metadata standards
and coding approaches for metadata mapping
·         Demonstrated ability to plan, initiate, and implement effective
programs, projects and services
·         Excellent organizational skills with aptitude for complex
analytical and detailed work
·         Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a
rapidly changing environment.
·         Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
·         Demonstrated leadership skills in a collegial environment
·         ALA-accredited degree or equivalent foreign degree
·         Potential for meeting the requirements for tenure

Preferred Qualifications:
·         Active involvement in professional development activities with a
record of scholarly contributions and achievements in the profession
·         Experience working with faculty, staff and students
·         Experience with online course management software and other
relevant educational technologies
·         Grant-writing experience

This is a full-time, twelve-month, tenure-track faculty position. Tenure is
dependent upon ongoing library service effectiveness, professional growth
and development, and service to the University and the community. Rank of
either Senior Assistant or Associate Librarian, with a starting salary
range of $50,100 - $80,136. Excellent benefits, including 24 days vacation.
