DOS MUJERES. [two poems, in Spanish]

TWO WOMEN. [two poems; English translation of Dos mujeres]

SEVEN. [Seven poems in English]

These three books contain nine unpublished poems by Luis J. Rodriguez.
They are letterpress printed in three editions of fifty artist’s books
by C & C Press, M. Cohen & Sher S. Zabaszkiewicz.

Luis J. Rodriguez is a well-known, award winning Chicano poet and
author, and is known by the Dalai Llama as one of fifty of the most
influential men in the world. Luis's integrity and much earned respect
have inspired us to seek the appropriate means for revealing his poetry
to the world. Our intent was to create fine letterpress limited editions
to reveal accurately Luis's words and poetry through our use of, and
understanding of image, text, design and book structure.

Based on the Aztec heritage of the poet, imagery was created using the
photopolymer process and a number of linoleum cuts. The text was handset
using 11 point American Garamond and was letterpress printed using a
Vandercook SP 15 proofing press. The ink is Vanson rubber base, printed
on Superfine Mohawk. Ink colors were chosen to reflect content and
imagery in conjunction with the color of the paper.

TWO WOMEN and DOS MUJERES were hand bound using the false accordion
style binding, measuring 6.75" x 9.5". SEVEN was hand bound using the
Daniel Kelm wire edged binding, measuring 6" x 10". The end sheets are
hand-made paper made from the poet's T-shirts.

The titles were created using Luis's handwriting. In TWO WOMEN and DOS
MUJERES, the transformation of handwriting into abstract form
encompasses the covers. In SEVEN, letters were abstracted from the
handwritten poetry to create the title.

Limited editions of 7 broadsides were created reflecting specific pages
from each book. Five of these broadsides were printed on hand-made paper
made from the poet's T-shirts. Two of the broadsides were printed on
Superfine Mohawk. We released most of these broadsides to Luis, and if
anyone is interested in purchasing any of these, please contact Tia
Chucha's Cafe Cultural in Sylmar, California. Tia Chucha's web site is:
www.tiachucha.com <http://www.tiachucha.com>, where you will find more
information on their work and can contact them.

TWO WOMEN $ 150.00
DOS MUJERES $ 150.00
SEVEN $ 350.00

These artist's books and broadsides mark the establishment of C&C PRESS

project was funded in part by a generous grant from the Undergraduate
