Look into the Criteria for Hiring and Retention of Visual Resources Professionals (http://www.vraweb.org/criteria2.htm); the ARLIS/VRA joint publication, Guidelines for the VR Profession; and the ARLIS/VRA Summer Educational Institute for Visual Resources and Image Management (http://www.vraweb.org/2005sei/index.html).

My own personal thoughts are a B.A./M.A. in art history and M.L.S. or an M.A. in art history with Library and Information Science courses is a good combination. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill now offers a  M.A. in art history/M.L.S. program.

What are the qualifications expected/required today for someone who wants to go into visual resources librarianship?  M.A. Art History?  M.L.S.?
 
Also, are there any "Library Schools" that are particularly good for such preparation?
