ATLANTA,
July 26, 2005 – The Atlanta College of Art Board of Directors, after
careful consideration, voted Monday, July 25, 2005, to recommend to the Board
of Trustees of the Woodruff Arts Center, that the Atlanta College of Art become
part of the Savannah College of Art and Design beginning summer 2006.
“Atlanta College of Art and
Savannah College of Art and Design have been exploring a broad spectrum of ways
the institutions can collaborate to advance arts education and cultural
opportunities for students,
If approved by the WAC Board of
Trustees and SCAD Board of Trustees, this action will immediately expand the
facilities and academic majors available to current and future ACA and SCAD
students. The alliance will ensure continued access to world-class
faculty with demonstrated academic excellence, and provide additional resources
crucial to today’s academic experience. The alliance is also
expected to open new opportunities for cultural and academic programming.
At this time, plans have not been
finalized, pending formal approval by the boards of the
Atlanta College of
Art, founded in 1905, is the oldest private college of art and design in the
Southeast. A founding division of the Woodruff Arts Center, ACA shares its campus with the High Museum of Art, Alliance
Theatre, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Young Audiences. A major
cultural force in
