Project Archivist – In-house Archival Survey
Temporary position:  through 12/05 with possibility of extension

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Guggenheim Museum is seeking a Project Archivist who will be
responsible for in-house survey of archival materials within the Museum
Offices. Duties include interviews with staff to inventory archival
materials in-house and identifying materials for future collections.
Project culminates with a completed inventory of materials in-house,
recommendations for the collection of additional materials, and steps
established to collect and process identified collections.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES TO PERFORM JOB:

Knowledge of records management principles.
Knowledge and experience with standard archival arrangement and
description issues, appraisal and preservation.
Must work with minimal daily supervision.
Knowledge of twentieth century art.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an ALA-accredited Library/Information Science program
or related field with coursework/training in archival studies or records
management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience surveying archival collections.
Familiarity with current technologies used in library and archives
settings.
Strong organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication
skills.

Processing Archivist – 2 positions
Temporary position:  through 12/05 with possibility of extension

The Guggenheim Museum is seeking a Processing Archivist who will be
responsible for surveying and inventorying archival materials stored off-
site. Duties include survey of materials in archival storage off-site and
basic level processing as well as assisting Project Archivist with in-
house archival survey. Project culminates with a completed inventory of
materials, and steps established to prioritize, process, and provide
access to collection.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES TO PERFORM JOB:

Knowledge and experience with standard archival arrangement and
description issues, appraisal and preservation.
Knowledge of records management principles.
Knowledge of twentieth century art.
Strong organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication
skills.
Ability to lift and move boxes weighing up to 30 pounds
Must work with minimal daily supervision.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

management.
Demonstrated experience processing archival collections.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with current technologies used in library and archives
settings.
Experience in preservation of archival materials in various formats.
Excellent analytical, collaborative, and interpersonal skills.
