Sponsors Sought for ARLIS/NA-VRA 2005 Summer Educational Institute

The Art Libraries Society /North America (ARLIS/NA) and the Visual Resources
Association (VRA) are pleased to announce the 2005 Summer Educational
Institute for Visual Resources and Image Management, to be held at Duke
University, in Durham, North Carolina from July 5 through July 9, 2005.

This year, the expanded five-day program will include:

                General Visual Resources and Administration

                Cataloging and Organization

                Collection management (Analog and Digital)

                Intellectual Property Issues

                Digital Transition Strategies

Integrating Analog and Digital Image Management

                Management of Digitizing Projects

                VR and Museums and Libraries

                Demonstration and Information Sessions

Instructors, covering a wide range of expertise, are being drawn from
recognized professionals in the field. Attendees, ranging from experienced
analog collection managers to new library science graduates, will receive
certification of attendance and completion from our parent organizations. As
most library and information science programs do not address the needs of
image collection professionals, the ARLIS/NA -VRA Summer Educational
Institute is intended to provide a standardized and sustainable program for
visual resources training, with a focus on issues related to the transition
from analog to digital collections. The 2005 class has 45 participants,
with a waitlist. Proposals are being considered for the 2006 and 2007
institutes.
