I've been following the discussion on the dissolution of GLIRT, and no matter how many times I read the rationale, I am still not convinced. Sponsorship no longer required for conference sessions? That applies to all RTs, sections, etc. not just GLIRT. Inactive or nonexisting web pages and/or mailing lists? Nothing unique here; same could be said for other ARLIS groups. Trouble finding a chair? Seems like GLIRT has one. And this happens to other groups from time to time, doesn't it? From this rationale it looks like any RT could be a candidate for dissolution. And the argument that other associations have similar interest groups that are "much more organized " than ARLIS's, so go join them, doesn't sit well with me. I understand that the EB can dissolve a RT if it decides that its "usefulness" has ceased. GLIRT seems to be serving the purpose of a round table as defined in ARLIS bylaws, and the entire membership of GLIRT should have been included in the discussion, as a courtesy if nothing else, but wouldn't they be the ones to consult to see if it's still "useful"? Members are the ones who see the need to form a RT; why shouldn't they be consulted to see if it is still useful. Kathy Kathryn L.
