Title:  Reference Librarian (tenure-track; two positions)                                      

AA/EOE institution

 

Essential function:

Hofstra University seeks self-motivated Reference Librarians to join the library faculty and work in a collegial environment that emphasizes service and instruction.  Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Reference Services and Collection Development, the Reference Librarians will work as members of a team with a firm commitment to active engagement in information literacy initiatives in a major academic library.

 

Responsibilities:

* Provide general and in-depth reference services to a broad range of library users within a schedule that includes evening and Saturday rotation

* Participate actively in a dynamic information literacy curriculum, through planning, developing, and delivering instruction sessions for undergraduate and graduate students in library use and resources covering a range of disciplines, and including instruction in on-line automated services

* Originate, compile, and update print and electronic bibliographies, user guides, and pathfinders on topics of value to students and faculty

* Select materials in all formats in assigned subject areas, employing appropriate tools and criteria

* Serve as liaison to academic departments as assigned, establishing and maintaining communication on collection development and instructional needs

* Serve on library and university committees

 

Qualifications:

* Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program

* Second graduate degree required for tenure

* Subject expertise in education, business, or other social science preferred

* Teaching experience in an academic library or equivalent classroom setting

* Working knowledge of ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education as they apply to curriculum development

* Experience developing new instructional materials

 

Compensation:

* Instructor:  minimum $37,000; assistant professor:  minimum $42,000

* Includes a strong benefits package

* A second graduate degree is required for appointment at the assistant professor rank
