As Paul Weiss says in this message, it is difficult to stay apprised of what is happening with the development of AACR3 because the members of CC:DA who are discussing the draft are not permitted to distribute it to a broader audience. The links that Paul has provided may give you a sense of what is in the draft, and where the discussion is headed.

Subject: [PCCLIST] PCC comments on draft AACR3 Part I

The PCC Secretariat at LC has posted on the PCC website the comments on the draft of AACR3 Part I that I submitted to CC:DA as the PCC Liaison to that group, preceded by a cover memo. The document is at <http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/archive/aacr3-pt1pcc.pdf> http://www.loc.gov/catdir/pcc/archive/aacr3-pt1pcc.pdf. The document is structured according to the template for comments that JSC asked its constituencies to use. Thanks to the members of the Standing Committee on Standards, CONSER, and BIBCO who contributed (within an extremely tight timeline!), and to the Secretariat for getting the document posted so quickly!

As many of you already know, the distribution of draft of AACR3 Part I itself is restricted. Even for those of you who do not have access to the draft, browsing the PCC comments will give you some sense of the concerns we shared with CC:DA. For further information on AACR3, see http://www.libraries.psu.edu/tas/jca/ccda/ann0412.html#aacr3 (CC:DA) and http://www.collectionscanada.ca/jsc/current.html#AACR3 (for JSC).

Feel free to forward this email message to other individuals or electronic lists. If you have concerns about AACR3's impact on PCC, or about the PCC comments, feel free to contact me and/or other PCC leadership.

Paul J. Weiss
Chair, PCC Standing Committee on Standards
