Lois Swan Jones travel award, 2005

The Texas-Mexico chapter is delighted to announce its selection of Katherine O’Dell as the 2005 recipient of the Lois Swan Jones Professional Development Award.  The annual prize, funded by individual donations from the membership of the Texas-Mexico chapter, honors Lois Swan Jones.  This year’s award provides five hundred dollars toward expenses at the upcoming Arlis/NA national conference in Houston.

In keeping with the guidelines of the award, Katherine receives no institutional funding, is a member of the chapter, and plans to report on her activities at this, her first national conference.  Her application was distinguished most especially by her participation in the upcoming conference as a panelist on Session #2, “Oil Patch to Oil on Canvas: Four Texas Women Collectors.”  Katherine will present on Marion Koogler McNay.  The session that runs from 10 to 11:30 on Sunday morning, April 3 in the Houston Americas Hotel.

Katherine is a native of California, but has lived in San Antonio for thirteen years.  She got her Bachelor’s degree in art history from Trinity University, and is set to graduate this May from the University of Texas School of Information.  In the last years, Katherine has worked at the Trinity’s slide library, UT-Austin’s Architectural Archives, the McNay Art Museum, the San Antonio Art Museum, and the Image Collections of the National Gallery of Art.

Congratulations to Catherine, and thanks to all the chapter members who contributed to make the award possible this year.

For a list of previous winners, back to 1993, see the Awards page on the Chapter’s website.  In the Fall of 2005, we will post information on applying for the 2006 award, that will fund a chapter member’s travel to the conference in Banff.
