Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA)
 Position Description:   Professional Resources Editor

Appointment:  Appointed by and reporting to the President for a two year, renewable, term.  This position works with the AWS Editor and participates on the Publications Committee. 

Essential Function:  To identify resources of value for librarians, visual resources curators, students, teachers, and vendors with interests in the arts and ARLIS/NA and manage their publication in print and/or electronic format on the AWS.  Resources include, but are not restricted to, Occasional Papers, AWS online publications, and resources such as member-produced papers, surveys, annotated bibliographies, etc.  

Responsibilities: 
1.              With Publications Committee, identify, solicit, and acquire new publications; coordinate jury review process when appropriate to determine a potential publication's relevancy and value
2.      Communicate with ARLIS/NA membership, committees, divisions, sections, round tables, chapters, and conference session moderators, and encourage publication when relevant and valuable resources are identified
3.      Monitor for possible publications the list serves and websites supported by professional and scholarly agencies with which ARLIS/NA has affiliation or common interests
4.      In the case of print publications, provide budget and marketing plan to submit for review and approval by the Executive Board; work with Headquarters on production and delivery
5.      Perform, or coordinate third party copy editing, according to Chicago Manual of Style standards
6.      Establish calendar and administer processing schedule for each publication to guarantee timely delivery  
7.      With AWS Editor, establish procedures for uploading, revising, and deleting content on the AWS server
8.      Devise innovative and aggressive means of marketing ARLIS/NA publications
9.      Administer the Copyright Transfer Agreement with all authors, compilers, and editors
10.     With Executive Board, implement co-publishing plans with trade, academic, or professional presses

Qualifications:
1.              Membership in ARLIS/NA for at least two years
2.      Skills in, and demonstrated experience with, copy and/or content editing
3.      Experience in carrying out and overseeing delegated functions on a timetable and according to a budget
4.      Familiarity with protocols of print and online publishing, including contracts, copyright, royalties, etc.

Expectations:
1.              Attendance at the ARLIS/NA annual conference
2.      Active involvement in the Society's working groups and/or regional chapters 
3.      Involvement in additional professional societies  
4.      Creativite input in expansion and enrichment of AWS

Honorarium:  $1000 per year
