LIBRARIAN SPECIALIST
(Brand Library and Art Center)
Area of Specialty:  Art
OPEN EXAMINATION
SALARY                 $3,970 - $5,190 (Salary includes 7% PERS contribution
which is deducted from the listed salary for employee's retirement
benefits.)
FILING PERIOD    Open/Continuous Examination. Recruitment may close at any
time.
THE POSITION
This position performs the broad range of professional duties associated
with a full-service public library system.  The art specialist regularly
performs duties that require and routinely draw upon art-related knowledge,
experience, skills and abilities.  Essential functions include, but are not
limited to the following:  Assists all patrons of the Brand Library,
particularly with art-related needs. This may include accessing information
and library resources, providing reference and research assistance, and
conducting searches on the Internet and subscription electronic resources.
Coordinates art exhibitions and activities of the Galleries, including
evaluating works of art, interviewing and selecting artists for exhibitions
and coordinating all installations. Initiates publicity for all art events,
including press releases and community outreach. Performs and coordinates
collection development functions for art materials, including selection,
maintenance and weeding.  Produces specialized art bibliographies and
reading lists. May plan, coordinate and present art-related programs. May
teach specialized computer skills to the public.  Represents the library and
makes presentations about library resources and services to the community.
Uses outstanding internal and external customer service skills in a team
environment. Maintains records and statistics, and prepares reports.
Participates in regular staff meetings, system-wide planning committees, and
professional organizations.  May participate in online reference services
assisting patrons interactively via the Internet.  May assist in special
projects, including fund raising activities such as grant writing.  May
supervise staff and oversee facility in absence of unit supervisor.  Work
schedule includes regular Saturdays and evenings.  May include Sunday hours.
Assumes responsibility of ensuring the duties of the position are performed
in a safe, efficient manner.  Performs other related duties as assigned...

EXPERIENCE
Three years professional library experience and demonstrated knowledge and
expertise through work experience, programming and/or education.  Gallery
management or exhibition experience highly desirable.

EDUCATION/TRAINING
Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university.
Degree in fine arts highly desirable.
