As many of you already know the Detroit Institute of Arts is currently in the midst of a large renovation project which includes work in the Research Library & Archives. As we are discussing possible changes to the library stacks area many have suggested compact movable shelving. Before the construction began we had been using this type of shelving to house our auction catalogue collection, but I wonder how other libraries might use such shelving systems to maximize space.
