OSLO 2005

Announcement and Call for Papers

World Library and Information Congress
71st IFLA General Conference and Council
Oslo, 14-18 August 2005

The programme of the Art Libraries Section is planned under the general theme Libraries : a Voyage of Discovery. The Art Libraries Section is pleased to announce its intention to hold a 2-hour session during the conference. The theme of the session is co-ordinated with that of the Rare Books and Special Collections Section.

Art Libraries Section Programme - formal papers

Topic: C20 Visual Culture - Its Impact on Art Library Collecting

The 20th century brought new challenges to art librarians as traditional materials continued to grow in number and type. At the same time an explosion of new media clamoured for attention. We want to explore how this wide variety of materials has affected collection policies and collecting management in art libraries.

How are issues like the following handled:
- changes in what and how libraries and archives 'collect'
- art libraries are not just about books and information but also interpret and display related object collections
- artists' web-sites
- changing nature of art research
- ephemera
