Please mark your calendars!   I am pleased to announce that the next Midstates Chapter meeting will take place on Friday, October 22nd and Saturday, October 23rd at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN.  Our hosts will be B.J. Irvine, Fine Arts Library Director,  and Eileen Fry, Fine Arts Slide Librarian .

Friday's events include guided tours of the Kinsey Institute's library and art collection and the Indiana University Art Museum's exhibit "Pressure Points: Recent Prints from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer & the Jordan and Mina Schnitzer Foundation." 

On Saturday, Eileen Fry will lead a roundtable discussion titled "Coming to grips with CCO - Element by Element: An Open Participatory discussion of the Metadata Elements in the CATALOGING OF CULTURAL OBJECTS, using real-life examples."

* "Pressure Points: Recent Prints from the Collections of Jordan D.
Schnitzer & the Jordan and Mina Schnitzer Foundation". (Oct. 1-Dec 19.)
Features 54 prints selected from over 1,500, assembled by one of the Northwest's foremost print collectors.  This exhibition represents the first showing of this collection east of the Mississippi. Twenty-three diverse artists including British artists Julian Opie and Gary Hume, Hispanic artist Enrique Chagoya, and African-American Artists Robert Colescott and Kara Walker. Tour led by Nan Brewer, Curator of Works on Paper.
        All conference attendees will be given a copy of the outstanding exhibition catalogue (full color, 32 p.) for this show. 

*"Cosmopolitan: New York and Paris.  Selections from the Thomas T.
Solley Photography Collection". (Oct. 12-Dec. 19.)
Exhibition of over 50 masterworks which examines how these two world capitals inspired generations of photographers.  The selection from this world-class collection of over 500 images, many of which have never been shown publicly, was made by Jeffrey A. Wolin, an internationally recognized photographer and the Ruth N. Halls Professor of Photography, IU Henry Radford Hope School of Fine Arts.
 
*Thomas Hart Benton murals in the IU Auditorium are available for viewing (on your own)  Monday-Friday, 10 am - 5 pm.  The Auditorium is closed on Saturday.


PARKING:  Metered parking available near Fine Arts Bldg., Art Museum Bldg., at the Indiana Memorial Union parking lot a fee is required. Meters need to be filled every two hours. It is cheaper and more convenient to pre-order a parking permit ("parking clip"; $5 for one day, $6 for two days) that can be used in all parking lots. It is recommended that attendees arrive early on Friday (by 8:45 am), because all the regular lots fill relatively fast, even on a Friday. (Saturday is not a problem.) Use of the Indiana Memorial Union parking lot is recommended.
