Experience an event of true international impact
2004-5 Carnegie International

Carnegie Museum of Art
ON VIEW NOW through 20 March 2005

In 1896, Andrew Carnegie established the Carnegie International, an
exhibition of the best contemporary art from around the world. More than
100 years later, the Carnegie International is one of the most
anticipated events in the art world, a bellwether of new art and artists
from around the globe.

Ethics, spirituality, scientific inquiry, free will, good vs. evil,
these are examples of what curator Laura Hoptman calls "the Ultimates"
and are some of the issues addressed in the exhibition. Thirty-eight
artists have been chosen for the 2004-5 Carnegie International; some are
leading figures internationally or in their home countries, others are
notable newcomers at the beginning of their careers. The artists are:

"Woody Allen has famously said that 90 percent of success is showing up.
That's true of democracy too. I'd argue that the other 10 is making sure
you're registered beforehand."
