Position Announcement
Coordinator of the William R. Jenkins Architecture and Art Library

Responsibilities: Plan and administer the programs and daily operations
of the Architecture and Art Library, with considerable scope for
planning and implementing new program initiatives, including the
application of new technologies to the delivery of services. Supervise,
train, and evaluate the employees of the Architecture and Art Library,
including 2.5 FTE staff and 6 part-time student employees. Provide
reference service in the branch. Develop the collection in all
appropriate formats in architecture and art. Participate in library
instruction in the Architecture and Art Library. Maintain a close
relationship with branch library administrators and the faculty and
administration of the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and the
Department of Art. Participate in various library and university
activities, including involvement with committees and task forces.
Branch librarians may serve limited hours at the Research and
Information Services desk at the M.D. Anderson (main) Library and may
participate in the general user education program of the Libraries. This
position reports to the Head of Branch Services.

The Coordinator of the Architecture and Art Library is a librarian
position. Librarians hold academic ranks pursuant to the University of
Houston Librarians  Governance document. They are expected to develop a
record of service and professional involvement.

Qualifications: Required: Masters degree from an ALA-accredited program;
bachelor s degree or higher in architecture, art, or art history, or
significant coursework in one of these subjects combined with experience
in an appropriate subject library; excellent communication skills and a
strong service orientation. Preferred: Supervisory experience.

Salary: $42,000 to $46,000 anticipated hiring range, depending on
qualifications. Excellent benefits package, including health coverage;
choice of retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity
program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hrs/week; no
state or local income tax.

Library Information:
The Jenkins Architecture and Art Library is housed in the College of
Architecture building. It currently holds 90,000 volumes, including a
1,000 volume rare book collection. The UH Libraries are a member of the
Association of Research Libraries, the Greater Western Library Alliance,
and the Texas Digital Library Alliance. They hold over 2 million volumes
and have a current materials budget of $6 million. Total staff includes
48 professionals and 120 support staff. Additional information available
