ARLIS/Mountain West invites you to its chapter conference in Denver, Colorado, September 30-October 2, 2004!
Conference planners Tom Riedel and Peggy Keeran (local arrangements), along with Nancy Pistorius (programs), have been busy putting together an informative and fun-filled conference.
The theme of the conference is Arts, Librarianship, and Community: Creating, Collecting, and Researching Art. Sessions include:

-- Collection Development and Electronic Resources panel, moderator Nancy Pistorius
-- "Do you see what I see? What images are telling us," speaker Alessia Zanin-Yost
-- "Donor Relations for Libraries," speaker Miguel Juarez
-- Public Art and Librarianship panel, speaker Professor Annette Stott, other speakers tba
-- "You never think it will happen to you-count to ten, breathe, move on...it can't happen twice," speaker Mary Graham
Our keynote speaker is Lawrence Argent, professor of art at the University of Denver, who is creating a public sculpture for the Denver Convention Center expansion. We'll also visit the construction site of the Frederick C. Hamilton building of the Denver Art Museum. The 146,000 square-foot facility, designed by the architect Daniel Libeskind, will double the size of the Denver Art Museum and will be the first Libeskind-designed building to be completed in the United States (2006). Evening activities include a reception at Dixon's, an art walk, and dinner at Tom Riedel's home.
The conference will take place at the historic Oxford Hotel at 1600 17th Street. Just across the street from the Union Train Station, the Oxford is centrally located in the heart of Denver's historic district, LoDo, and is a 35-minute drive from Denver International Airport. Art galleries, restaurants, and shops are all within a short walk from the hotel. The Oxford Hotel was voted one of the 50 best hotels in the world by Hemispheres Magazine.
